The article assesses the innovation of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation a reasonable period of criminal proceedings. The analysis of these provisions by article concludes that the domestic legislator failed to comply with the requirement of the European Court of Human Rights and to establish an effective mechanism to ensure the optimum timing of criminal proceedings.
